A poetically pulsating two-act opera with dance and choir

The Japanese choreography pioneer Saburo Teshigawara creates exclusively for Ballett Basel. This two-part evening offers an opportunity to experience the extraordinary work of the Japanese master.

The first part consists of the Swiss premiere of the celebrated work 'Metamorphose'. The second part is 'Like a Human', a choreography created for the Ballett Basel ensemble. In an impressive interplay of light, sound, dance and body, 'Verwandlung - Teshigawara' reveals what makes us human and holds us together at our core. Art that is created between haunting images and poetic calligraphy. Dynamically breathing and breathtaking at the same time, theatre spaces are transformed into sculptures, bodies into dance poetry, literature into energy. A unique and moving experience.

With original compositions by Tim Wright and Saburo Teshigawara, as well as music by Olivier Messiaen, Maurice Ravel, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sergei Rachmaninov, Arcangelo Corelli, Tomaso Albinoni, Cesar Franck, Pavel Chesnokov.

Saburo Teshigawara is not only a star in the dance world: he has been honoured with numerous prizes and awards, including the Nobel Prize for the Arts, the Praemium Imperiale of the Japanese Imperial Family, and the Golden Lion of the Venice Biennale for his work as a choreographer, dancer, sculptor, designer and painter, the Bessie Award and appointment as Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters in France. His 40 years of work has been seen worldwide and has influenced numerous artists.

Shortly before the premiere, during the final rehearsals, we invite you to a first exclusive insight. You will get to know the choreographer Saburo Teshigawara and learn more about the piece, material and staging. Afterwards, you will attend a stage rehearsal.

Basler Zeitung
